We have four rooms available for rent. The items available for use when renting these rooms are: 12 tables, 127 chairs, 2 coffee pots, 1 pot for hot water, service for 50 people, dish soap, and trash bags.

Residents of Iowa are eligible to apply for a library card from the Algona Public Library. We ask that you present some form of photo identification that has your full name and your current street address (not a post office box). If your photo ID does not have your current address, we will accept other verifying ID that does show your current address, as long as you also have some form of photo ID. For example, we will accept a checkbook, a voter registration card, a hunting license, a rent receipt, or a utility bill or other piece of mail sent to your current address.
There is no minimum age to receive a library card. However, children under the age of 12 must have a parent or legal guardian sign their registration card. Since most children don't have a form of identification like those listed above, the parent or legal guardian can use his/her ID to request a card for the child.
To get a library card, please ask any of our staff at the Circulation Desk.
Sometimes the library does not have a book that you would like to read and you're welcome to request the title from the Algona Public Library. You can submit an
online request form, you can speak with a staff person at the Library's at the Circulation Desk, or you're welcome to call 515-295-5476 to submit your request. We'll call you when the title is here, and when you are done with it, return it to the Algona Public Library.
If a book or item that you would like to check out is already checked out by another patron, you can reserve that item (also called placing a hold). You will need to log in to your account using your 14 digit Library card number and password. If you do not know your password, please email
mstrickler@algona.lib.ia.us or call 515-295-5476. When the item is returned, it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk. We'll call you to let you know the item is waiting for you to check it out.
Books, Audio Books, Magazines – 3 weeks
Movies – 4 days
Puppets – 14 days
Generally, you may check out as many items as you feel you
can be responsible for.
The exception is DVDs which are limited to 10 per patron.
There is a charge of $0.50 to check out a DVD
for 4 days.
The APL does have free WiFi for patrons with
Internet-enabled devices. There is no wireless printing at this time.
There are no fines items if returned. If items
are not returned, patrons will be charged replacement costs. You will be unable to check out materials if
charges exceed $5.00 on your library account. You can pay for lost items at the
Circulation Desk by cash or check.
Unfortunately, due to lack of storage space, the Algona Public Library is not taking donations of books
on an ongoing basis. If you have historical materials, Iowa books, or rare items, please contact
mstrickler@algona.lib.ia.us or the Library at 515-295-5476 to schedule an appointment.
