Wastewater Treatment

The City of Algona Wastewater Department operates a Grade 3 trickling filter process. In 2013 the plant processed 437 million gallons of wastewater, an average of 1.2 million gallons per day.

The Wastewater Department is also responsible for the sewer collection system which consists of approximately 50 miles of pipe and 4 pumping stations. One third of the collection system is cleaned every year using high pressure water.

The Department also operates a main line camera that is capable of viewing the insides of lines from 8” to 24” in diameter for the purpose of determining their condition for potential problems and future repairs.
